Alex has been able to pray independently at dinner for a long time now and loves to lead us at home. When we go to family gatherings it is different. Not that he gets shy, but more amazed. He stares at everyone in disbelief that we are all saying the same thing at the same time. Aiden, is just starting to fold hands to pray at the dinner table. It is the sweetest thing imaginable.
This year has been big
for us already and we are only about 3 months into it! Along with
turning three and being potty trained; Alex was able to sign up for
Sunday School at our Church. He loves and we love lot; we all love it.
At SOLLC, the fall and early winter birthdays are permitted to sign up
for Sunday School starting in January and that is what we did! We had
been trying different churches in our area because the SOLLC is at least
a 30 minute drive. That's hard for a Sunday 8:45 AM service. Part of
that is our doing. We could go to the 10:45 AM service, but then we
don't get home until 12:30/1:00 and it cuts into our Sunday Funday! So,
instead we get up early and head out. Why not? The boys are awake
anyway.
We are out the door by 8:00 (i.e. 8:10) and on our way. Alex gets dropped off first, usually because he is running to class. Then, Andy and I drop off Aiden at the nursery, grab a pager, and head to Church to listen and take in the sermon peacefully. We haven't been paged yet, but if Aiden is "Messy" or just not doing well, they page us to come and get him. Although Alex loves Sunday School, Aiden is not convinced about the nursery yet. They are wonderful there and take really good care of him. There don't seem to be that many babes, but Aiden is more apprehensive than Alex ever was. Usually when we go and get him he is playing with or being held by an adult. He will learn to love it, I know it.
Not the best picture, but Andy quick snapped it when we were picking him up one Sunday.
On this particular Sunday, Alex and his class of 3 year olds had made sandwiches for a local food shelf. The class made 18 sandwiches total with five kids in class that day! Alex was very proud. "We're helping feed people, Mom!" I love the lessons and skills he is obtaining through this experience. My cousins and their family also attend this Church. Grace teaches Sunday School and I would love for Alex to be in her class next year! I also like his current class, but I would always choose Grace. Along with starting Sunday School this year, Alex has a Spark Story Bible. He loves to read it! We were given the scripture readings ahead of time and the kids hear the same message we hear about in Church. It is fun talking to Alex about what he learned and being able to add some insight into the conversation. We read the scriptures and Bible stories from Alex's Spark Bible the week before and he is ready for Sunday! The first week of Sunday School, we picked him up and were on our way home when he said,
"Hey, Mom?"
"Yes, Alex?"
"Did you know...God is Good!"
"I did".
I love seeing the "light" in my child's eyes.
Thanks be to God!
