Joseph Field

A little over 14 years ago, my beautiful Godson was baptized.  I cannot believe it has been that long and he has changed immensely.  I am sure he would be so embarrassed to be reading this now.

I feel he and I have always had a special bond.  I used to babysit him and his sister quite often.  For a few summers in a row, when their parents went out of town for the weekend, Andy and I would babysit them.  They came to visit me in Winona when I went to college there.  They were the first cousins on the Johnson side to meet Andy, and they seemed to love him right away.  I still laugh when I think about Joey teaching Andy what a jiggy is.  (If you don't know...I'm not explaining).  And Andy used to "lift weights" aka Joe and Gracie. And when we got married, they were for sure in our wedding.  Although I don't admit to anything, I'm not taking any blame/credit for anything they learned on the party bus that night :)

He is someone who radiates goodness, laughter and light.  His actions seem to be done with intention, good intention.  It's difficult, especially through the teen years, to remain strong in your faith and a leader in your world.  It's normal (I think, anyway) to get a little lost on your path or in your journey.  I hope he finds the strength to navigate his world through his faith.
Last Sunday, Joe was confirmed along with 70-something of his peers during that service.  I couldn't believe how many teens there were.  His mom was confirmed in this Church and married his dad here.  He has strong roots in his family.  He has strong roots in his faith.

I was so proud to stand up with him, put a hand on his shoulder and let him know that no matter where he is, what he is doing or who he is, I will be there for him.  I'm proud of the person he is today and am so excited to see the young man he turns into.

Alex was so excited to sit down by his Great Aunts Darcy and Lori and cousin, Gracie.  He seemed to be doing well.  Every time Andy and I looked down there I would quietly whisper to him, "Please listen, Alex".  He would mouth back, "I am, Mom" with a smile.  It was too much for Aiden. Even before the service started, Andy brought him up to the nursery (his usual hang out for the services).  I went to pick him up at the end and he was in his element.  Running around and playing.  Charming the socks off of the ladies working up there.

After the service, we met up with the rest of the Johnson family at the Goodwin's home.  We had a nice meal, some cake and Joe opened up some card/gifts.  Alex and Aiden were so lucky to get some Halloween buckets.  It's fun to see how just a short time ago, Grace and Joe were like my little brother and sister.  Now, Alex and Aiden are like their little brothers. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, there is nothing like family.

Congratulations, Joseph Field!  This is the kid I think of when I think of you...
