When I was little, everything happened at my Grandpa and Grandma Johnson's. My Grandma would watch us when my parents were working and I remember so many family events. Birthdays, holidays, trips to the park, walking up to "Al's" (Hardware store), getting the snacks ready for the guys (my uncles, dad, grandpa, and close family friends) for when they got home from work. They would sit in the garage, have a few, talk and we would bring out crackers and cheese, chips, etc...Some of my fondest memories.
One memory I hold dear to my heart is making dough dogs. Apparently, my aunts/uncles and grandparents did this while they were growing up too. We would do it on special occasions such as sleepovers at Grandma and Grandpa's.
This year, we decided to start having an annual Dough Dog Days event. We headed to my parents for food, family and fun!
My parents just got back from their trip to Chicago and bought us all shirts. The boys refused to wear White Sox shirts, so they got the Cubs. We took our annual shirt picture. It might not have been the best day for a picture in my family. The boys were crabby, tired and getting over their sickness. And, Andy's eyes were hurting him. (after going to the dr. the next day we found out he has a viral infection in both eyes). After making a short appearance, Andy and the boys headed home for early bed (6:45). Did I mention I have the best husband in the world?
Please excuse the picture dump...
Alex was surprisingly very disappointed that he missed out on the dough dogs. But, Grandpa and Grandma saved some dough and they got to make them the very next day. Needless to say, they loved them!
Oh my! That looks so yummy! Is it like a giant mini-donut?
