We love traveling during the summer when I am home most days and Andy is able to use some vacation time. The days are longer and it is more fun to be outside. This year we decided on the Wisconsin Dells with some good friends of ours, the Hoppe's. My family always went on family vacations during the summer growing up with our friends, the Goracke's. It is fun starting new traditions with my little family.
Andy was able to take off the entire week of work so he was able to squeeze in some extra family time. We didn't leave until Wednesday morning. I spent most of the day and evening on Tuesday packing and getting ready to go so we were ready bright and early Wednesday morning.
Well...things happen and we have kids. Little kids. We left at noon.
The boys are getting to be excellent travelers! We didn't even watch a movie until the ride back home...when most of us had colds. The Tuesday before we left, I ended up taking Aiden to the doctor. He had had a temperature of 101.5 and just wasn't himself. Diagnosis? A bad cough. It was bad. The Doctor said it wasn't contagious and we should go forth with our plans for the Dells. I'm not so convinced it wasn't contagious. He slept most of the way out there (3.5 hours) and most of the first day and second day for that matter.
On our way out there we stopped by the St. James Hotel in Red Wing. My parents had stayed there the previous Sunday night and caught the train to take to Chicago. Their car was parked in the parking lot. Alex colored Grandpa and Grandma a nice Batman picture, we wrote a special note and we left it on their windshield for when they got back that Friday. They loved it!
When we got out there, we headed out to dinner at Damon's. A restaurant attached to the hotel. The food was good, the drinks were delicious! Let our vaca begin!
We got a really fun room with our friends. It had two separate bedrooms (1 master and 1 with two doubles), two bathrooms, an entry way, a living room, small deck and a small kitchen with a sink, small refrigerator and microwave. We planned to eat most of our meals in our room.
On our first morning at breakfast after having french toast, bacon and eggs, Sam and Alex grilled up some fruit. Sound good? Um...probably not.
We stayed at the Kalahari...we didn't need to go anywhere else. The place is huge.
The kids enjoyed a nice bath in the jacuzzi style tub.
I wonder how the milk got spilled in the cooler?
We had a great set up and time with our good friends. Lots of bonding and this is just the beginning... Stayed tuned for more pictures...
