Thee best thing about summer is getting to spend time with my kids. I can say that is one of the best parts of my chosen profession. Another great thing about summer is getting to explore, check things off the so-called "summer bucket list" and live a more relaxed life style.
We made a point to talk early, exchange calendars and get some dates marked down in pen for our summer dates. Oh, by "we" I mean Cassie and I. She has a busy schedule and although summer is more relaxed, we still seem to get booked up fast. Our first date was to be at the Children's Museum in the cities. We bought a pass last year and the Museum seems to be so expensive that going once is a deal. Maybe I'm exaggerating...My mom happened to have the day free and was able to join us as well! Bonus!
The face painting/body painting station was especially fun. A woman working at this station asked Alex how he shows me that he loves me. His response? "I tell her". Good response, buddy!
Although the painting was fun, Aiden walked around like a mummy for the next 5-10 minutes. Like he couldn't move any part of his body. He was kind of freaked out by the whole thing.
We have never done the story time at the Museum before, but were just in time so why not? The guy who was reading the stories was amazing! The kids' (especially Alex's) eyes were glued on his him. He hung onto his every word and did exactly what the man said to do. It was fun to watch. Alex is a learner at heart. He loves school, story time, projects and learning about how things work or live. He loves animals. This is his element.
Next we headed off to the paper making station. Not my favorite part of the Museum, but the kids seem to like it, so why not? Aiden loved using the scissors to cut, Alex enjoyed cutting out paper "M's" that we were all supposed to wear. I'm not sure why he chose the letter M, but we all did it. Cassie and I made hats to wear following the directions listed on the wall. It was entertaining.
Last year Cassie and I took the boys to the museum in August as well. Here is a picture of Aiden at 18 months and Alex at 3 with Cassie (August 2012).
We thought we would try for a better picture this year in the water area, which is probably their favorite area, and this is what we got. Alex is 4 and Aiden 2 (June 2013).
Maybe not the best place to take a picture, but now it has created a memory in the not so beautiful side of photography.
Next, we moved onto the art area. I love the art area. I am not very artsy, more crafty, but I am jealous of all those art people out there. Today's activity was spin art. I wish I had thought of doing this at home. Using salad spinners, you place a piece of paper in there and drop paint in using an eye dropper. Then spin it and vwalla!! It was fun.
I remember the community part of the Museum as being my favorite as a kid. I always wanted to grow up, have 11 children (that has changed) and live. I dreamed of being a stay-at-home-mommy, and now am thankful that I get my summers to indulge in that dream. Anywho, the kids love this area too!
It is fun when the rooftop is open because the weather is nice. It is mostly fun to just explore something different. The kids used paint brushes to paint with water on the rocks and my mom and Cassie found some interesting herbs and spices growing in the rooftop garden.
After a quick car nap, Cassie treated us to lunch at Buffalo Wild Wings. I think I have been there once, so it was a fun experience! Alex loved his hat and food, but was definitely ready for a nap before heading off to TBall that night.
It was a great day. We are sure blessed to have such beautiful, loving women to spend the day with and create such loving memories. We are so excited for our next trip with them and Great Aunty Reney to the MN Zoo!
