The 6th of July

Oops! We skipped the 5th of July...

Ever since I can remember we have gone up North for the best fireworks show of the year.  Of course they are the best because my Aunt and Uncle spend much time buying and planning for this.  They are the most unique fireworks and we stand almost right under them.

We stopped at the 5-8 Club on the way up this year, just like we have done for the past couple of years.  We ordered up some of their news-worthy Juicy Lucy's and popped back in the car for the drive up North.  I was hoping the boys would take a nap in the van with my mom and I, but I was wrong.  They were raring and ready to go.

When we arrived, the mosquitoes swarmed us.  We ran into the house and helped Cassie decorate cookies with frosting and jelly beans for Baby Velencia's first birthday. Growing up on the Andersen side, we would always decorate cakes at birthdays with jelly beans.  It is a sweet memory.  By the way, she loved the frosting and cookie! :)

Aiden loved to chase and watch Ellie and Benji play.  He was very intrigued by them.  Cassie was showing Aiden how to talk to the "woofies" (that is what Aiden calls puppies) when Benji (and Ellie) did an excellent job of listening.  Proud mama moment for Cassie!

Aiden wanted to see what Daddy was doing so we headed out to the Man Cave with Grandpa.  I was instructed to note in this blog that Pete skunked, or came close to skunking, my Grandpa in cribbage this time around.  It doesn't happen much, so I guess Pete just wanted it in writing. Andy headed out to clear some of the trees from the walking path and found a deer skull. Uck!  While my dad, Aiden and I took a ride on the four wheeled ATV (haha..I can never remember the name of the thing).

Alex enjoyed some cards with Grandma while we were gone.  Then we all enjoyed a delicious dinner made by the Andersen's while Aiden took a little nap with my Dad. I knew it was going to catch up with him...

While we were up there Andy, Luke and Pete took Alex to Lake Five to do some fishing.  They managed to catch a few small sunfish and crappies too, but nothing big enough to keep.  Alex has an exuberance for fishing and hasn't learned the rule that "all good things come to those who wait" yet.   Someday... In the meantime, I will enjoy his passion for life and fishing.

The fireworks were amazing.  I didn't get many pictures with the mosquitoes and wanting to actually watch the fireworks, but they were so fun to watch and so many people turned up to watch them.  Thanks again for an excellent show, Andersen's!

We headed back to the Grand Northern Inn, where we were staying for the night.  Alex fell asleep and was not to be awoken.  Aiden however was wide awake.  He had some snacks, jumped on the beds and then finally crashed.  I stayed up talking to my parents for a while, while Andy and Pete headed to the Casino to lose some money.  The next morning, we did some swimming and then the guys headed home.  The girls had a baby shower to attend!
