Day 4 of our trip to Washington was packed with all sorts of fun. Abby had again taken the day off work to spend with us, which was a wonderful treat! We started off in the morning by going to one of the nearby state parks to dig for clams. The boys were so excited and we had no idea what we were doing.
Good thing Abby was with and could guide us. Unfortunately, I think we may have been a little too late and we weren't seen a lot of "squirters".
This was very interesting to me. I have never been clamming before. The clams are under the wet sand that gets covered by the tide when it comes in. You find a clam by digging a hole in the spot where is shoots up water. We didn't see a lot of clams this day, but dug and got a couple.
We had no expectations for this adventure and had a great time. The tide definitely came in while we were there though and that was kind of interesting to see as well.
After digging for clams we dropped Abby back off at her house for a break and the four of us headed out to one of the state parks. Because we had the van we were able to bring more equipment with us like our carrier for Aiden. I was excited to get out and see some of nature and Washington. We were not disappointed!
There was a paved path to follow or you could take the off-the-beaten-path trail. We didn't take the paved one. We saw lots of slugs, huge and fallen trees and lots of water. It was beautiful.
After our walk we headed over to Deception Pass, a bridge that people (around 2 million/year) come to see. The bridge was very high up in air (180 feet) and Andy didn't want to venture out too far. I didn't blame him though as the cars on the road were very close to the sidewalk of the bridge.
After walking on the bridge for a ways, we walked under the bridge and down to the beach by the bridge. We didn't walk all the way down because I was not carrying either of those boys all the way up. The walk back up was difficult and steep, but we all managed to do it!
Friday night Andy and Nate took Aiden and Alex fishing. I think they had fun until Aiden decided to throw a temper tantrum and threw Andy's pole into the water. Oh, sorry, "Andy's favorite pole". Then, they were done.
Abby and I drove up by Seattle to the Washington State Fairgrounds for a 5K Electric Run. Her friend, Mel, completed the run as well. I was very nervous as I am not a runner. I started running and slowed to a nice brisk walk, which was fine too. Nevertheless we had fun. They had all sorts of flashy neon lights and music. It was definitely a one in a lifetime experience (for me).
We stayed the night in a hotel and headed back to Abby's the following morning. It was a fun and exhausting day!
